AeroBarrierUK and Hill Group have successfully completed 14 low-carbon homes at Aragon Close and Sackville Close in the King’s Hedges ward of Cambridge. These new homes, developed for the Cambridge Investment Partnership (CIP), demonstrate an innovative approach to airtightness and energy efficiency, achieving an impressive air permeability rate of 1 air change per hour (ACH) or below.
The development consists of seven two-bedroom council houses at each site, replacing four former garage blocks that were no longer fit for purpose. By transforming underutilised land, this project contributes to Cambridge City Council’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable housing while ensuring sustainability is at the forefront of design and construction.
Gerri Bird, Executive Councillor for Housing at Cambridge City Council and CIP board member, highlighted the importance of the scheme:
“We are committed to tackling the acute housing shortage in Cambridge by bringing forward sites which are underutilised or no longer fit for purpose to provide modern, high-quality affordable homes for local people within existing residential areas.”
AeroBarrierUK played a crucial role in ensuring these homes achieved exceptional airtightness. The innovative AeroBarrier technology, which uses an airborne sealant to eliminate air leaks, was instrumental in reaching the 1ACH or below benchmark. This level of airtightness significantly reduces heat loss, improving energy efficiency and lowering residents’ energy bills.
The combination of advanced airtightness solutions, energy-efficient design, and high-quality construction materials ensures that these homes will provide long-term benefits to residents and the local community and help reach the wider sustainability goals of Cambridge Investment Partnership.
